What can be done against male pattern baldness in the early stage?
The most can be done against male pattern baldness when the hairs have only thinned but have not disappeared for good. At that stage most of the hair follicles are alive and just grow weaker and weaker strands. The change is often barely noticeable at first: the hairs gradually thin out, the hairline may slowly recede, and the density of hair on the crown may decrease.
Why does the "M"-shaped hairline develop?
Hair thinning in men is rarely even. It usually starts in the two front-lateral triangles, then the hairline gradually recedes and takes on the characteristic "M" shape, but thinning can also begin on the crown. This is the best-known sign of androgenetic alopecia.
The pattern is interesting because it reveals the cause of the process. This is not about external harm, but about the genetically determined sensitivity of the hair follicles. The follicles at the back of the head do not feel the same effect, which is why they stay in place for decades.
How does Regenera Activa treatment work?
At our clinic, in the early stage we use Regenera Activa therapy. In this method small samples are taken from the patient's own healthy scalp tissue and processed mechanically. The resulting autologous micrograft suspension contains, among other things, progenitor cells and extracellular matrix components, and is then returned to the thinning area of the scalp.
The procedure was registered in 2015, and the protocol was refined to its present form over more than two years. Since then more than 4,000 patients worldwide have been treated with it. In the treatment of male-pattern baldness, Regenera Activa can be used on its own and also as a complement to a hair transplant.
3 steps, 45 minutes
The treatment against male baldness consists of a single session and takes 30-45 minutes. First we perform local anesthesia on the back of the head behind the ear, over an area of roughly 1.5-2 cm². From there we take three tiny skin samples with a 2.5 mm biopsy needle; this part is painless.
The samples are filtered by mechanical preparation in order to separate progenitor cells, undifferentiated cells and growth factors. We return the resulting solution with fine needles to the thinning zone of the scalp, where new capillaries form and regeneration of the hair follicles begins.
When can results be expected?
This is a regenerative therapy, so the answer is less precise than with a traditional hair transplant. The pace is shaped together by the dynamics of the hair loss, the extent of the affected area, age and genetics. Miniaturized hairs can be detected under the microscope after just one month. The first noticeable change is usually a slowing of hair loss, followed by thickening and strengthening of the existing hair.
From the sixth month a strong improvement in the quality of the strands can also be seen. New hair growth can be observed in the second phase of regeneration, over the following six months. It is recommended to repeat the treatment every one to three years.
What is realistic in your case can be said after an examination. If you have questions, you can reach us on the callback request page, but it is also worth reading our blog articles on the topic.
What other treatments may come into question for male-pattern hair loss?
There are several options for treating androgenetic alopecia. The solutions that can be used include drug treatments, hair-preserving procedures such as I-PRF therapy, and in more advanced hair loss a hair transplant as well. Which of these is justified is best determined based on the extent of the hair loss, the condition of the hair follicles, the history and individual circumstances.
Who does it make sense for?
Against male pattern baldness, the intervention that brings visible results is the one that can still work with living hair follicles. If the hairline has visibly receded in recent years, or the scalp shows through on the crown, it is worth having the condition of the follicles examined.
The assessment shows in which zone there is still reserve and how much of it can be brought back. The assessment takes place at the HairHungary (Clinic) practice, by prior appointment.
The thinning of hairs is a slow process, but the loss of hair follicles is irreversible. The timing of the decision made against male pattern baldness therefore matters at least as much as the chosen method itself.
If your hairline is gradually receding or you experience thinning on the crown, it is worth assessing the current condition of your hair follicles. In a personal consultation it can be determined which treatment options may come into question and what result can realistically be expected in your case.
