The basics of mesotherapy hair treatment I.

Is it effective, how does it work, what are the side effects?

Mesotherapy in brief

The essence of the therapy is to boost the metabolism of the scalp, thereby stimulating keratin production and the division of the cells that create the hairs. But how do we achieve this? Well, if we want spectacular results within a foreseeable time, we have to rely on the microinjections used during mesotherapy, which are injected directly into the area that is lacking hair.

The causes of hair loss

Now let us talk about why we deal so much with this burning problem. Hair loss affects almost everyone; unfortunately this phenomenon occurs regardless of age and sex. The hair loss that most commonly affects men is hair loss of male hormonal origin, better known as male pattern baldness, which is possible less often because of an overproduction of androgens (the collective name of male sex hormones) and more often because of the reaction to them. Unfortunately, it is an increasingly common phenomenon that prematurely affected young men complain about the hairs they shed ever more frequently. In women, by contrast, hair loss is caused by exactly the opposite, a drop in the estrogen level. What is listed above is merely the processes caused by general hormonal changes; hair loss, however, has countless causes that cannot be generalized so simply. Poor nutrition, a lack of vitamins and minerals, or poor genetics all contribute to the thinning of our crown.

The first step of mesotherapy

Like every treatment, the procedure begins with an assessment of your condition. Making a good diagnosis is important, because the special feature of mesotherapy is that it can be tailored to the individual extremely well. If we know the lack of which substance is causing the hair loss, we compose the serum to be injected in the appropriate proportion. For example, if we find inflammation in the patient, we supplement the solution with organic silicon.

One of the most frequent questions is whether the injections contain artificial additives. The answer is of course NO. It is crucial that only chemically pure substances enter the scalp, otherwise we may trigger an allergic reaction. (Click here for the main questions about hair transplantation)

How exactly does the therapy work?

After the assessment the treatment can begin. A session lasts 30-60 minutes on average, and is then repeated weekly, in rarer cases every two weeks, over a period of several weeks. Since the hair follicles are 2-3 mm deep in the scalp, the stimulating serum has to be delivered there with microinjections created for this purpose.

There is no reason to worry; in our experience the procedure is not painful, at most some discomfort or tingling may be felt. The main ingredients of the solution are primarily elastin and collagen, which are needed for the catalysis of the skin itself.

Most of the work, however, is done by the active ingredients responsible for the testosterone-DHT conversion, the amino acids serving as further building blocks of the skin, and the ingredients supporting circulation; the latter also stimulate the proteins built into the skin, promote hair growth and reduce the degree of inflammation.

Depending on the individual, a spectacular improvement can be perceived after the third session, but occasionally 5-6 sessions are needed, spread over months.

Side effects and who we do not recommend it for

It adds a lot to the success of mesotherapy that side effects occur only very rarely, and even when they do, it is a small sacrifice for thick hair. The most common is bruising, which is absorbed within a week, as well as pain felt in the scalp, which subsides within 24-48 hours after the treatments.

Mesotherapy can be performed on almost anyone, but there are cases when we do not recommend it, e.g. during pregnancy/breastfeeding, in the case of a bleeding disorder, or if during the consultation we find an allergy to some active ingredient.
