Gergely Harsányi's hair transplant
Gergely Harsányi – many teased me about my growing forehead, but that is over now!
Gergely Harsányi, captain of the Hungarian men's handball national team, decided on a hair transplant to find a permanent solution to his baldness. The two-day procedure went successfully, and in our interview we asked Gergő to tell us about the background and his surgical experience.

How did your days before the surgery go? Were you looking forward to the procedure?
My family members kept asking me whether I was nervous, but interestingly there was no nervousness in me, because on the one hand I had talked with someone who had undergone such a procedure, and on the other hand I had read about what to know on the HairHungary website and seen the interviews with patients, so I knew what to expect. Three days before the surgery we were still playing a European Championship qualifier with the handball national team, so I really had no time to be nervous.
What really inspired you to decide on a hair transplant? Had you tried any other remedies before?
When my hair started to thin in the first half of my twenties, I did everything to stop the process. I stopped using hair gel, started using more serious shampoos and products, I even went to a hair specialist, but unfortunately nothing helped. My friends teased me more and more often that my forehead was growing, until last year a handball acquaintance drew my attention to this possibility: he also had a hair transplant and the result was astonishing; a few years ago he was still bald, and now he was telling me this with a full head of hair :) Seeing this, I thought I would try it too.
Are you satisfied with the procedure, the doctor and the surgical assistance?
My transformation is simply unbelievable. Acquaintances and strangers stop me at every step asking how I got such a head of hair, although not long ago I even had to protect the top of my head with sunscreen. I can talk about the doctor and the assistants only in superlatives. Besides their incredible professional knowledge and precision, what impressed me most was their kindness and helpfulness.
How did these two days pass, what did you keep yourself busy with during the surgery?
I arrived at the clinic at 8 in the morning, where first they cut my already not very long hair. During the surgery we chatted with the doctor and the assistants, I exchanged messages with my family and friends, read the paper, and in the afternoon I watched films. Forrest Gump successfully held my attention again after many years.
How strenuous was it in your opinion?
The mornings went by harder, since then I had to lie on my stomach, but I bore the afternoons sitting better. As I had set aside these 2 days for this, as an athlete I tolerated the immobility well overall.

Did you feel any pain?
I felt pain only in the first few seconds, when I received the anesthetic injections; after that my head went numb and I only felt that they were working on it. In the afternoon I felt a little pressure in my head, but by the evening that stopped as well.
How did the first night go and what was your first positive feedback about your new crown?
The first night was strange only in that I could lie only on my back, but I was given a painkiller, so I slept well.
It felt good that I can use hair gel again, and that my hairdresser can cut more than just one style. And of course my little daughter can pull my hairstyle too!
Time for some well-deserved rest? When does the preparation begin?
Next week I still have an obligation at Semmelweis University, I am finishing my coaching qualification and there will be practice, but then a rest will indeed finally follow. The preparation begins in the middle of July, so I can switch off for a full 2 weeks.
