Hair transplant in summer?
The weather and the seasons actually have little to do with what the ideal time is for a hair transplant. The best time is always the one that our patient truly feels is their own, - when they feel prepared for the hair transplant, whether in summer or in winter.
The healing period and the post-transplant protocol are the same in every season, although in the seasons we can find factors that can help recovery or somewhat hinder it. The greatest contrast is of course between a winter and a summer hair transplant, so we take this as an example. After a hair transplant

Is there a best time for a hair transplant?
We have received the question about the ideal time for a hair transplant countless times, since many people fear that the summer sun or the timing of their vacation will interfere with the regeneration period. After the hair transplant it is necessary to spend 10-14 days of "forced rest" so that our freshly transplanted grafts stay in place, this is unavoidable regardless of the season. During this time it is very important to precisely follow the post-transplant instructions prescribed by the specialist doctor, such as:
-
Avoid active sports and physical work
-
And the sweating that comes with it
-
Relieve itching with saline solution (never scratch with your hand)
-
Avoid strong sunlight
The last point can of course cause concern for those who are thinking about a summer hair transplant, however there is a factor that our patients regularly forget.
Vitamin D against hair loss
Since our body can synthesize vitamin D mostly through sunlight, there is a good half-year period when we are not really abundant in vitamin D, and this can have immediate consequences. Besides bone pain, slow wound healing and itchy skin, scientists have found a connection between vitamin D and strengthening hair. Vitamin D and hair
In a study carried out in 2016, a small biopsy was taken from the scalp of patients suffering from alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia to test their vitamin D levels.
They looked for the presence of vitamin D receptors in keratinocytes, the dominant cells forming the epidermis, which are responsible for the growth and development of hair follicles. Vitamin D receptors are tiny markers on the surface of these cells that signal to vitamin D molecules that the cell needs vitamin D.
The study found that in those who are affected by hair loss, the concentration of vitamin D receptors was significantly lower. This shows that a lack of vitamin D can cause hair loss, while its presence strengthens the hairs. Sunlight also promotes regeneration and speeds up wound healing, which is why the summer period can be attractive to many for this reason.
So is a summer hair transplant recommended or not?
If your vacation is mostly limited to the summer, there is no need to worry about how you will follow the instructions. Summer sunlight can both help and damage the regeneration of the transplanted grafts, but because of sweating it is advisable to stay in an air-conditioned room during the first two weeks.
Bathing in salty seawater and wearing a hat to avoid sunlight are all permitted after the aforementioned tight two-week period following the hair transplant. These 14 days, however, cannot be bypassed either in summer or in winter if you want to achieve real results. Your summer hair transplant therefore has no influence on your vacation, you can calmly enjoy your holiday with a healing scalp, so that in the autumn you can greet your colleagues with a brand-new look.
